The residual purpose of art is purposeless play. This play however, is an affirmation of life–Not an attempt to bring order out of chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply a way of waking up to the very life we’re living, which is so excellent once one gets one’s mind and one’s desires out of its way and lets it act of its own accord. -John Cage
Betty’s Response: That is what I’m talkin about! Woo!
As this year comes to an end I am thinking a lot about the mybikebetty project and what has resulted from doing it. First of all I am a lot less intimidated to do many of the things I am interested in AND to explore/challenge what I don’t know, not to mention the fun I’ve had this past year. When I began the blog my intentions were to do this project for a year, regenerate my love of adventure, and heal all that comes with “disenchantment.” So for the record let me say, SUCCESS! So much so that Betty and I will explore and blog-on!! However, for 2015 we will focus less on inhibition and more on challenging the idea of what exactly art is along with “purposeless play.” like…
So Betty and I are out for now but extending to you a 2015 invitation to get out there and SHOW ME WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW because as Cage perfectly states this play, is an affirmation of life.
PS…here’s to a new friend in 2015 (more to come).
